DESCRIPTION ESSAY

A boring friend is a person who usually doesn’t propose you anything to do, anywhere to go, anybody to meet, and never makes you laugh, for example, a boring friend is someone who prefers to be at home chatting or watching TV instead of going with you to a party or a concert.

An exciting moment is an instant that makes you feel happy, excited and a little scary at the same time. It is like when you go down a zip line.

An interesting film is a movie that has a great plot, stared by expert actors, sometimes makes you have a nice time and also causes you feelings that don’t leave you indifferent. An example can be the famous film “The Kid”, directed and stared by Charles Chaplin.

A worrying situation is a circumstance caused by a trouble that you don’t know how to manage with, makes you feel uneasy and insecure. For instance, when you have a friend who smokes too much marihuana and you think it isn’t good for her and you don’t know how to help her.

An annoying classmate is a person who talks a lot in the class, interrupts interesting conversations, laughs at other schoolmates, and always demands attention. For example it can be a person who always asks questions that somebody has just asked before.

I get annoyed when I want to do homework in the living room and the table is full of things.

I feel embarrassed when I don’t remember the name of somebody that I know.

I’m shocked when somebody explains a bad news or a tragedy.

I feel relaxed when after a hard rowing training I lay on my bed and listen to my favourite song.

I’m interested in people who share great feelings and experiences with me.

OUR COMMUNICATON

Nowadays, people use whatsaps, telephone calls or e-mails more than face-to-face communication. We think that this has negative consequences. We reckon that is better talk face-to-face than use new technologies.

When you sue new technologies you can't see the reaction of the person who you are talking to about. Therefore, sometimes you can upset someone. Frequently there can also be misunderstandings, you can interpret wrong the message. Due to this, a lot of fights has started.

Sometimes people think that using messages to communicate is faster than talking face-to-face. In fact, it's faster talking physically with the other person. An example is when you meet your classmate to do a project. Doing project using watts or google drive is longer than meeting your partner one afternoon and doing it in one hour.

To sum up, new technologies are really useful tools but you have to know how to use them. So the best is talking face-to-face, if we do it, we'll have better relationships.

USE OF ANIMALS FOR MEDICAL RESARCH

Nowadays medical research uses millions of animals in tests. In Spain, thousands of animals die every year due to experiments after days, weeks, months or years of suffering. This mortality has increased fifty-one per cent in the last years. On the other land thanks to this, we can treat diseases which before that were incurable or lethal. So, there are arguments for and against this practice.

One of the arguments for using animals for medical research is that with this practice we have developed new treatments, above all in regenerative medicine. Also we can ensure that drugs aren’t harmful for our health. This form of research is regulated so therefore, it’s not necessary mistreat the animals.

Nevertheless, there are other opinions. The animals are usually in awful conditions. Often animals are in small and individual cages, although they are a social species. Also experiments cause pain and horror to animals. Normally the animals die, during the experiment or after it. In addition, animals may be private of food, water or sleeping. In some cases, this practice doesn’t work, for example in one occasion, a drug was to market and it caused side effects, some babies were born with deformities. The problem was that the effects on humans are different to the effects in animals.

In conclusion, I am not in favour of using animals in the medical research. Maybe in the past there weren’t any more ways to create and test drugs. But now it’s different, we have technology and more improvements in medicine, so we can avoid this cruel practice. Or at least minimize and control this type of research.

MY GRANDFATHER’S STORIES

My grandfather usually talks about his adolescence and about his life in general. He tells me how they lived and what they did. Also he narrates stories and anecdotes, like the one about whole rice or his last day at school.

Anselmo was a teen when he lived in Valencia with his mum and his brother. In thet moment his father was in prison because while he was trying to cross the border and was coming into France, the police arrested him because he was of CNT and he had pending issues. His wife, my great-grandmother, Contxa Ferri, worked in a food shop. Anselmo helped her when he didn’t have to go to school.
One day the people of the other store needed another shop assistant, considering that it was summer and he had school holidays, he went to work at the shop. The clients usually asked the owner why he didn’t check out the change that Anselmo gave them, and one day he answered that the situation was the opposite, my grandfather had to inspect the change. Anselmo narrates this with pride.

Another of the typical stories was the “whole rice story”. In orders to get some money, the family had a rice mill. They bought whole rice and sold white rice and turned it into white rice, then they sold it. This was prohibited, but they did that to get some extra money. One day, the police knocked on their door, they knew in that house there was a rice mill and were determined to confiscate it. At that moment, Anselmo’s father wasn’t in prison, and he was with my grandfather at home. They saw the police, they hid the mill and hid Anselmo’s father in their neighbour’s home. Anselmo opened the door, the police asked him where the mill was and they said that if he didn’t tell them the truth, his father would have problems. My grandfather started to cry saying: “I don’t know the place where the mill is. My father will go to prison because of my fault…” he cried and cried until the police left the house.
On that occasion they escaped from the police.

MY FRIEND CLARA

Clara is one of my best friends. I met he at school, we were in the same class. She lives in Banyoles. She has curly medium-length Black hair. Her face is ovel and has a small nose and long eyelashes. She is fair-skinned and she’s slim but strong.
Clara is a open person and talks all the time. She’s very cheerful and friendly. She’s funny, happy and crazy too. She’s also optimistic,  sincere and confident. She’s messy, but she finds every thing she wants.
Clara dedicates 8 hours to learn music every week. Her hobbies are singing and theatre. She plays the piano, the violin, the guitar and wants to play the accordion. Apart of music, she likes dancing and popular celebrations, like “corrafocs”. She doesn’t like ball sports or eats peas.
Now, although we don’t go to the same high school, we are very close friends.
